Senior Oracle DBACategory: IT - Database Administration (DBA) Job Description: Essential Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Technology (70%). • Database Software Installation and Upgrades • Identify server hardware, software and configurations necessary for running Oracle.
• Develop new processes utilize and refine existing processes for database software installation and configuration. • Database Requirements Analysis and Design.
• Enforce and refine database standards. • Assess and identify database server resource requirements. • Develop and maintain data models. • Database Problem Research and Resolution. • Assume ownership of database related problems; pursue problem resolution and root cause analysis. • Coordinate interaction with vendors in critical database problem situations. Database Support:
• Participate in a 24X7 pager rotation; rotations can vary from weekly to daily hand-offs. • The rotations include providing DBA support on weekends and holidays, as well as providing Subject Matter Expert support to the on call DBA as needed. • DBA on call work includes performing off-hour maintenance operations as well as dealing with after hours troubleshooting. Others: • Learn and stay current on the many facets of the Corporate Infrastructure applications as well as the features and functionality of Oracle and DB2 UDB. • Evaluate current technology and recommend tools/processes for improving availability, reliability, stability and work efficiencies. Leadership & Communication (10%): • Ability to work well with different staff levels within and out of core competency. • Ability to translate highly technical solutions/problems to audiences at varying technical levels. • Strong ability to prepare and present technical documentation
• Communicates in a professional manner when interacting across staff levels and internal/external customers.
• Understands the importance of communicating risk assessment. Management & Administration (10%): • Ability to contribute, influence and direct a variety of projects concurrently. • Set individual goals that are consistent with business goals. Participate in initiatives to define, measure, and report on application quality and stability.
Business Acumen and Strategy (10%): • Has broad knowledge of Thomson Reuters NAL products. • Proactively generates relevant ideas for new and improved use of technology.
• Understands the impact of new projects and technical impacts to support systems. • Collaborates with peers, architects and managers to determine project strategy and how best to implement/support it. Desired Candidate Profile: Required Skills: • 5+ years experience with Oracle on Unix platforms • Hands on experience in installation of Oracle 10g RAC systems • Minimum of 3 years experience with UNIX shell scripting • Experience with Linux preferable • Strong quantitative, analytical, communication and verbal skills with a strong
customer service focus • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently toward assigned goals
• Ability to deliver results in high pressure situations.
Desired Skills: • Oracle Backup & Recovery
• Understanding of storage and clustering
• Oracle OCP DBA certification would be desirable. Candidate should be willing to work in 24x7 Shift. Experience: 5 - 9 Years Location: Bengaluru/Bangalore.
